Matt’s interest in music started as far back as age 10. He was born and spent his childhood growing up in the town of Salford, Manchester. It was whilst at school that he first turned his hand to singing as a member of the school choir. When he wasn’t singing, he immersed himself in the music that his parents would listen to at home; in particular Frank Sinatra, Matt Monroe, and the other popular crooners of the day.

His musical interests and influences span a broad range and when he was invited to attend a rehearsal with a friend’s band, he found himself in front of the mic singing along to covers of Cliff Richard. It soon became obvious to those around him that he had a naturally smooth voice and style and he found himself ‘paying his dues’ in the working men’s clubs around Manchester where he would spend his Saturday nights entertaining the crowds with covers of contemporary artists such as Elton John, Billy Joel and Neil Diamond, and it was during this period that he developed a taste for big band swing music.

He upped his roots and ventured South in the late nineteen-eighties and settled in Horsham, West Sussex. It was around that time, that Karaoke was first breaking onto the scene and he soon found himself regularly taking to the stage and wowing the audiences with renditions of Sinatra’s classic ‘Night and Day’ and soul standards like ‘Me and Mrs Jones’ and was a finalist in a nationwide talent and Karaoke competition. His next step was to move onto the after dinner cabaret circuit where he would performed typical ‘Pack’ style songs

He first met up with The Pack after hearing that the band were looking for a fourth singer for their line up. After hearing Matt run through a couple of songs, the band immediately invited him to be a guest singer and appear at the ‘Dreams Come True’ Charity show in March of this year. And the rest, as they say, is history…
